Discover how art takes shape across Door County—not just in galleries and theaters, but in parks, barns, gardens, sidewalks, and studios. Whether you're wandering through public installations, watching a live performance, listening to a music series, or creating your own piece, you'll find inspiration in motion all around you.

WANDER ABOUT

Art in Every Corner

Art is woven into the landscapes of Door County—on sidewalks, shorelines, and wooded trails. Explore public sculptures, murals, and seasonal festivals that make creativity part of the everyday experience.

Through Egg Harbor’s Public Arts Initiative, permanent and rotating sculptures and exhibits can be viewed all over town and at the Kress Pavilion Egg Harbor Library. Just outside of Egg Harbor, you can walk through swirling structures of woven branches at Horseshoe Bay Farms’ Stickwork sculpture, a piece that seamlessly blends art with nature.

Community members gathered to paint the murals on Bayside Bargains and The Epicenter in Sturgeon Bay, which create an outdoor museum of color and form. The addition of public displays like the Woolly Mammoth statue at Bayview Park and Sturgeon Bay’s yearly street art installations reflect the city’s creative spirit.

Edgewood Orchard Galleries

The Peaceful Side of Creativity

For a quieter and more reflective artistic experience, visit the Poetry Trail at Newport State Park in Ellison Bay or the Writer’s Walk at Write On, Door County in Fish Creek. Celebrating the literary arts, both experiences invite visitors to interact with and meditate on the landscape around them.

Set against the waters of Ephraim, The Hardy Gallery is housed in a graffiti-covered warehouse that has become a public art piece in and of itself. The woods and meadows around Edgewood Orchard Galleries in Fish Creek become gallery space, with sculptures guiding you along winding trails.

The Plein Air Festival and Door County Contemporary Art Fair are events that bring the creative experience directly to the community and transform everyday spaces into dynamic canvases.

LISTEN CLOSELY

Sister Bay Beach Amphitheater

The Peninsula’s Soundscape

From barn concerts to bayside stages, music echoes across the peninsula in every season. Whether it’s classical, folk, jazz, or bluegrass, Door County’s soundscape is as rich and varied as its scenery.

Warm summer days bring live music back to the many outdoor venues, with parks and green spaces becoming stages for performers of all genres. The free Concerts in the Park series hosted by the communities of Egg Harbor, Sister Bay, Ephraim, Baileys Harbor, Fish Creek, and Sturgeon Bay are perfect for laid-back evenings with friends and family.

The Peg Egan Sunset Concert Series in Egg Harbor brings nationally touring acts to a scenic outdoor amphitheater, where the only ticket you need is a lawn chair. A combined performance and education space, MUSE is one of Sturgeon Bay’s newest places to experience and learn about music year-round.

Midsummer’s Music performs chamber works in intimate venues throughout the peninsula, while jazz, percussion, and symphonic students play alongside seasoned pros at Birch Creek Music Performance Center in Egg Harbor.

During August, the Peninsula Music Festival features weekly symphony orchestra concerts featuring renowned musicians. Catch foot-stomping bluegrass and country at The Fiddler’s Farm in Sturgeon Bay, or one of the eclectic lineup of performers at the Fishstock Concert Series in Fish Creek. Both bring their own musical flavors to historic barn settings, which are each more than a century old.

Across Death’s Door, the Washington Island Music Festival at the Trueblood Performing Arts Center and other island venues bring visiting artists and music education to the island community.

The annual Door County Jazz Festival brings prominent musicians and local talents together to celebrate the genre’s legacy with performances across indoor and outdoor venues. One of Door County’s largest stages, the Door Community Auditorium in Fish Creek hosts big-name acts, with such past performers as The Beach Boys, Willie Nelson, and Gladys Knight, alongside community and cultural events all year long.

WATCH IT LIVE

Third Avenue PlayWorks

Performances along the Peninsula

Live theater here feels rooted in life in Wisconsin, from intimate black-box venues to open-air stages under the stars. Many performances draw on local stories, landscapes, and talent to deliver something both professional and personal.

In downtown Sturgeon Bay, Third Avenue PlayWorks stages diverse productions and events year-round in a reimagined movie theater, now a modern black-box space. Just north, Rogue Theater features local talents in a mix of dramas and comedies at its home, the DC Arts Center.

Elegant settings blend with place on two Fish Creek stages for Peninsula Players Theatre in Fish Creek and Door Shakespeare in Baileys Harbor. The Players, the oldest resident summer theater in America, features classic and contemporary works nestled along the waters of Green Bay.

In Peninsula State Park, actors perform against a backdrop of towering trees, while its indoor venue, the Gould Theater, not only acts as a space to perform year-round, but also provides a creative environment where new works are developed.

At Björklunden, Door Shakespeare brings the Bard’s plays to life, with the rustling of leaves adding natural ambiance to every play.

And for lovers of cinema, the Door County Film Fest presents an annual lineup of independent films, documentaries, and shorts that brings film buffs and filmmakers together.
