Folk Rockers Wood Brothers Back at DCA By Popular Demand
On Friday, July 24, at 8 p.m., The Wood Brothers will return to the Door County Auditorium (DCA) Main Stage by popular demand. Soul-soothing rock and roller Luke Tyler Shelton will open the show.
Dubbed masters of soulful folk by Paste, The Wood Brothers formed after brothers Chris and Oliver Wood had pursued separate musical careers for 15 years. Chris already had legions of devoted fans for his incomparable work as one-third of Medeski Martin & Wood, while Olivers band King Johnson built a loyal following in the South. With drummer Jano Rix added as a permanent third member, The Wood Brothers evolved into one of roots musics most revered acts. The Wood Brothers twine their voices into high-lonesome brother harmony blends, shuffling between bluesy country and swampy funk with their spunky acoustic guitar, virtuosic upright bass, and jangling percussion.
New Noise Magazine called The Wood Brothers music groove-heavy folk rock thats rootsy enough to impress the purists and fun enough to even get the punk kids to pay attention.
Prior to the show, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Door Countys own Cathy Grier will perform on the Okarma Concert Patio, located across the street at DCAs new Cramer Exchange facility. And after the show, from approximately 10-11:30, Door County cult favorite band KETCHUP will perform an Afterglow set at Chuck & Chichis Soda Fountain & Encore Bar. Beer, wine, non-alcoholic beverages, ice cream floats, and snacks will be available for purchase before and after the show.
The Wood Brothers performance begins at 8 p.m. on July 24 and is sponsored by major sponsors EH Barker, Peninsula Pulse, and Wisconsin Public Radio.
Tickets range from $54-75; advance reservations are encouraged.
