New Door County Initiative Focuses on Cleanliness and Safety

A new commitment to cleanliness and safety initiative has been launched in Door County as the popular tourism destination prepares to welcome visitors.

To help ensure safety for both visitors and residents, the commitment to cleanliness and safety initiative provides guidance for Door County businesses and organizations that make a pledge to follow safety guidelines from Door County Medical Center and Door County Public Health.

By making this commitment to cleanliness and safety, local businesses and organizations may use a special logo in signage or on their web site to reflect the pledge they’ve made and to reassure customers they are taking added precautions to provide a safer business atmosphere. Participation is free and open to all Door County businesses and organizations.

The community initiative was created by Door County’s Long Term Recovery Task Force, a group established by the Door County Emergency Management office that consists of local government, health care and business leaders in collaboration with Door County Public Health and Door County Medical Center.

“We are happy to assist with this important initiative that can help bring our community together,” said Brian Stephens, CEO of Door County Medical Center and a member of the task force.

Destination Door County, the area’s destination management organization, supports the effort and feels this county-wide initiative is an important step to help welcome back visitors to the area. “Visitors are concerned about health and safety more than ever, and this initiative provides businesses throughout the county with an easy way to show customers they’ve taken this pledge and have committed to cleanliness and safety,” said Jon Jarosh, a task force member from Destination Door County. “This community effort also sends a strong message that Door County’s tourism industry is working together and recognizes the importance of providing a clean and safe destination to visit and work in,” he said.

Local business associations across Door County are also embracing the initiative by encouraging their members to participate.

In addition to the guidelines being provided through this initiative by Door County Public Health and Door County Medical Center, local organizations this week also expressed their support for the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation’s (WEDC) reopen guidelines. The county task force as well as Destination Door County and community business association leaders all endorsed those guidelines, which provide detailed information for businesses to safely reopen and operate. Those guidelines are available through the WEDC website.

Door County businesses interested in participating in the commitment to cleanliness and safety initiative can find program guidelines and the logo at DoorCounty.com.
