One of the Coolest Towns in America

One of the things I like most about blogging is that it affords me the opportunity to reflect on some of my favorite rides and places in Door County.  When I think of all the places I've been in the county, Egg Harbor, a small village 13 miles north of Sturgeon Bay, remains one of my favorites!

Egg Harbor was voted as one of the  "Top Ten Coolest Towns in America" by Budget Travel Magazine.  This quaint village sits on the bay of Green Bay making it a top destination for festivals, restaurants, shops, water recreation, walking trails, and public art. Egg Harbor is also one of our favorite locations to watch a sunset!  Many boaters call this home as the marina is easily accessible and within walking distance to everything in the village.

The outdoor concert series that Egg Harbor offers is one of the most popular activities for visitors and locals to enjoy.  The Peg Egan Performing Arts Center is located on Church Street.  Concerts are free and begin at 7:00 on Sunday nights.  Carry-ins are allowed.

On Thursday nights "Concerts in the Park" take place at 5:00 in beautiful Harbor View Park.

For those of you who enjoy unique gifts, clothing, home made goods, and so much more, you can spend the day visiting the many shops and boutiques Egg Harbor has to offer.  Jane loves to shop and explore, and because Egg Harbor sits right on the water I give her as much time as she needs...I take my book and head to Harbor View Park.  The view is breathtaking!

While you are in Egg Harbor be sure to visit one of the many outstanding restaurants.  Shipwrecked is located in the heart of the village and is home to Door County's only micro-brewery.

Another restaurant that Jane and I discovered several years ago, and that has become a favorite, is Casey's BBQ and Smokehouse (formerly Casey's Inn). I love their baby back pork ribs which are smoked slowly in their Southern Pride Smokehouse!

Besides cruising Door County in the summer, one of my favorite hobbies is golfing.  The Orchards Golf Course just north of Egg Harbor is a spectacular 18 hole championship course.  Both my kids, daughter Hannah, and son Trey work at the course so I "sneak" my clubs in the trunk of their car before they head to work in the morning.  That means I get to ride my cycle to the course, change into shorts and a nice shirt, grab my clubs out of the trunk, and hit the links.  Is that a great gig or what!  The course does have nice rental clubs available.  They also offer a great Friday night fish fry. The owner, Jack Jackson is a good friend of mine and he along with all the workers at the course are wonderful people!

As I head back there is nothing better than cruising Bay Shore Drive from Egg Harbor  to my home in Sturgeon Bay.  A great ending to a great day spent in one of the coolest small towns in America!
