Chicago on Vacation

On Tuesday March 5, Door County was featured as part of a 90-minute documentary on WTTW, the PBS member station in Chicago, called Chicago on Vacation with Geoffrey Baer. The crew was in Door County in June 2018 filming for the show.

Door County was the feature travel story in the Wall Street Journal’s Off Duty section in the July 16-17, 2016 weekend issue. The opening caption read: “If you’re after a slower pace this summer – a quaintly all-American vacation marked by waterfront bonfires, creaky lighthouses and cherry pie – make your way to Lake Michigan, where Wisconsin’s Door Peninsula is wide open.”

Wisconsin Public Television’s popular program Wisconsin Hometown Stories featured an episode all about Door County that premiered on WPT June 24, 2016.

Door County was featured on The Weather Channel’s AMHQ with Sam Champion show on Friday May 22, 2015 as part of a story about last minute Memorial Day road trips. Elaine Alimonti, the publisher of Budget Travel, talked about Door County and some of the area’s highlights with Sam Champion as part of a story that included 3 different destinations.

Door County was featured in a travel story that ran on NBC’s Today Show on May 18, 2015. The travel story, titled Memorial Day Hot Spots, highlighted select USA getaways from Joe Diaz, AFAR magazine co-founder.

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Bike touring in Door County was the subject of an article that ran in the Sunday, May 17, 2015 travel section of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Travel journalist Brian Clark talked about available bike tour options and interviewed the owner of Door County Bike Tours for the piece.

LA Travel Magazine

Door County’s golf scene was featured in the spring 2015 issue of Los Angeles Travel Magazine.

West Suburban Living

Door County was featured in a 4½ page feature story in the May 2015 issue of West Suburban Living magazine (Chicago area).

HOG Magazine

A 1-page “Next Ride” featured Door County in the May 2015 issue of HOG Magazine, the publication of the nationwide Harley Owners Group motorcycle club.

Door County’s own Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant was included in a green travel story that ran in USA Today online on April 25, 2015. The article talked about green roofs.

Door County Cherries featured in Chicago Tribune

The Chicago Tribune’s Sunday April 12, 2015 issue included a full page “Fork in the Road” travel story about Door County cherries. Travel journalist Jay Jones wrote about a number of cherry related items including where to buy, where to pick and the history of the cherry industry in Door County.

FOX 11 WLUK TV

Door County was highlighted on the WLUK FOX 11 morning news program Good Day Wisconsin on Friday February 27, 2015. Cave Point County Park and Peninsula State Park were featured on multiple segments that highlighted their winter beauty.

Food and Travel Magazine

Door County was featured in a 2-page destination story in the Spring 2015 issue of Food and Travel magazine, available on newsstands nationwide through May 25. Travel journalist Laura Dean-Shapiro covered outdoor recreation activities, culinary opportunities, wine tours and more.

Kankakee Daily Journal & Rochester Post-Bulletin

Wintertime fun in Door County was the focus of an article written by travel journalist Mark Shuman that ran in February 2015 in Midwestern newspapers, including the Kankakee (IL) Daily Journal and the Rochester (MN) Post Bulletin. Mr. Shuman wrote about his family’s winter travel adventures in the county including snowmobiling, visiting Cana Island Lighthouse, museums, dining and more.

WSAW CBS 7

Romantic Door County getaway ideas were the topic all morning on WSAW’s Sunrise 7 morning show in central Wisconsin on February 5, 2015. Reporter Kasia Gregorczyk covered a variety of Door County topics and also interviewed spokesperson Jon Jarosh from the Door County Visitor Bureau during the morning news show’s lead up to Valentine’s Day.
