Door County is humbled to be recognized on a regular basis by organizations and media outlets as a wonderful place to visit and live. We make best-of lists for vacation and getaway destinations as well as attractions that include fall colors, fishing, and our small-town vibe.
BEST WISCONSIN ATTRACTION - Door County took home the top spot in USA TODAY's 10Best contest for Best Wisconsin Attraction. Winners were announced on September 1, 2017. Door County was one of twenty attractions nominated for the award, and online voting determined the winner. Check out the full list, here.
Door County was voted one of "America's Top 10 Towns for Craft Lovers" by American Craft Week on April 20, 2017 . More than 17,000 votes were cast as craft lovers voted for their favorite craft town.
Door County was named the top spot in a story titled "17 of the Most Spectacular Places Across the U.S. for Fall Colors" by TripsToDiscover.com. In the story that posted on Sept. 2, 2014, Door County's picturesque lighthouses and charming towns were mentioned along with the county's incredible fall foliage. Check out the full story here.
Door County's very own Skyway Drive-In Movie Theater was named the top drive-in movie theater in the country! On July 30, 2014, TripAdvisor announced the 10 top drive-in movie theaters in the U.S., ranked according to the TripAdvisor Popularity Index™, which takes into account the quality, quantity and recency of reviews on TripAdvisor. Sturgeon Bay was named the top spot in Bassmaster's 2014 annual rankings of America's best bass fisheries. For this ranking, Sturgeon Bay was considered the bay of Green Bay from Little Sturgeon to Fish Creek, a good portion of Door County's western coast, and topped the list of the 100 best bass lakes. Door County was named one of the 10 Best Small Towns in America by Fodor's, who said in releasing their 2013 list that editors pored over the possibilities, ultimately picking the winners with draws like great local eats, interesting museums and cultural points and noteworthy natural attractions or outdoor adventures. The Door County section starts out with "Five state parks, 300 miles of shoreline, hundreds of non-chain shops, galleries and restaurants, all amid the beauty of Lake Michigan – need we say more?" Door County was selected as the Favorite Gas Tank Getaway in Northeast Wisconsin by viewers of CW 14 and FOX 11 in the TV stations' 2012 Hot List contest. Viewers nominated Door County as one of three finalists in the travel category and then voted Door County as the winner in this first-year contest. Door County's Cave Point County Park was also selected as a runner-up in the Hottest Place To Propose category, losing out to Lambeau Field.
Door County was named Best Weekend Getaway in Midwest Golfing Magazine's 6th Annual Editors Choice Awards. The magazine said "Wisconsin's distinctive finger is an open door to golfing excellence."
