Joseph Harris Jr. wasn't content to be a lighthouse keeper in Sturgeon Bay.

Harris was a skilled boatbuilder who started a long tradition of boatbuilding in the city. It started with boats as small as a rowboat, but grew until Sturgeon Bay became known throughout the country as one of the most respected shipbuilding centers in the country.

In Lighthouse Entrepreneur, Bob Desh tells the origin story of Door County's long, remarkable shipbuilding history.
