Behind the Scenes Group Tour Itinerary

Day 1

9:00 AM  Arrive at Popelka Trenchard Glass in historic downtown Sturgeon Bay for a glass-blowing demonstration. Afterwards, take time to walk through the gallery where you will discover a variety of hand-crafted artist creations including jewelry, vases, lighting fixtures. and mor.!

11:00 AM  Board the Door County Trolley for a unique behind-the-scenes tour of five diverse culinary destinations on the peninsula.

3:30 PM  Check into your hotel for some R&R.

6:00 PM  Experience a tradition steeped in Door County's Scandinavian heritage when you attend a fish boil at Rowley's Bay Restaurant & Fish Boil. Arrive early to watch fresh-caught Lake Michigan whitefish being cooked outside in an iron cauldron over a roaring fire before being served with onions and red potatoes. Don't forget your camera so you can capture an image of the burst of flames that signals dinner is ready!


Day 2

9:00 AM  Enjoy breakfast at Grandma's Swedish Bakery where you can indulge in their homemade treats like the half-pound pecan roll, limpa bread, and cinnamon rolls. 

10:30 AM  Take a behind-the-scenes peek at Seaquist Orchards Farm Market. Enjoy a guided 30-minute tour through acres of cherry, apple, and apricot trees as you learn about the Seaquist tradition that has been a part of Door County for over 25 years. Afterwards, indulge in complimentary samples of jam, fudge, mustard, salsa, and apple cider. 

12:00 PM  Gather the group for lunch at Glacier Ledge in Egg Harbor. Enjoy their indoor or outdoor seating and casual, fine-dining menu. Afterward, head over to their market to watch the cheese-making process and tour their cheese-aging caves.

1:30 PM  Embark on a tour of the Door Peninsula Winery and Door County Distillery. What was originally the Carlsville School House from 1868 through 1963 became the Door Peninsula Winery in 1974. Get a firsthand account of how award-winning wine and spirits are produced before enjoying complimentary samples. Try homemade fudge and an array of Fat Louie's Olive Oil, including new certified organic varieties. 

3:00 PM  Travel a little further for a tour of Simon Creek Vineyard and Winery, the county's largest vineyard, for a complete review of the winemaking process from harvest through bottling and casing. After the tour, enjoy a complimentary sample of up to four award winning wines in the taste room overlooking the wine production area, vineyard and gorgeous outdoor pond. Relax in the lounge area, on the outdoor terrace, or meander through the store. 

4:30 PM  Return to the hotel for some R&R. 

6:00 PM  For dinner, travel to Shipwrecked Restaurant, Brewery, and Inn located in the heart of Egg Harbor. Start things off with a cup of Seafood Chowder or Brew House Chili and choose from a selection of sandwiches and entrees, including Brew House Ribs and the 1/3 lb. Kraken burger. Be sure to check out the on-site brewing facilities where Shipwrecked beer is produced from grain to glass by brewmaster Rich Zielke. Order the sampler platter for a taste of all six brews available.


Day 3

8:00 AM  Have breakfast at the Harbor Fish Market and Grille in Baileys Harbor. Choose between an array of omelets, signature benedicts, pancakes, and more, including homemade corned beef hash.

9:30 AM  Take part in a special behind-the-scenes backstage tour of the Peninsula Players Theatre that includes the stagehouse, audience pavilion, control booth, dressing rooms, scene shop, and costume shop. 

11:30 AM  Make one more stop at Bjorklunden before the journey home. Here you'll view and tour the Boynton Chapel - a small wooden chapel built in the 12th century Norwegian stave church (Stavkirke) style.

1:00  Travel toward Carlsville to visit the Door County Coffee and Tea where roasting the world's finest coffee has been a time-honored tradition for more than 20 years. Once inside, let the aroma of fresh roasted coffee beans lure you toward the viewing area. Here you can see into the warehouse where 14,000 lbs. of coffee beans are delivered and roasted every one to two weeks from 30 different coffee producing countries along the "coffee belt." Take home all of your favorites from over 100 varieties on hand and grab a fresh brewed cup to go!

2:00 PM Arrive at Renard's Rosewood Dairy - Door County's first and only cheese factory tour! Learn all about the cheesemaking process and indulge in samples of their fresh cheese.

3:30 PM - Arrive at Cherry De-Lite/Country Ovens in Forestville. Get a behind-the-scenes look at their processing facility, enjoy a video tour, and shop the country store established in 1987 where you will find a variety of products produced exclusively from Wisconsin grade A fancy cherries. Stock up on all your favorites, with shipping available anywhere, you can send your goods home or surprise friends and family across the country with a taste of Door County’s finest goods.
