Door County, WI - After nearly a month since its debut Destination Door County’s (DDC) Door County Pledge has received over 2,000 signatures.

Launched on Earth Day, the Door County Pledge asks visitors and residents to commit to responsible behaviors such as respecting the natural environment and acting kindly while encouraging exploration of the county with purpose, mindfulness, and care. It does so by focusing on water safety, environmental stewardship, destination awareness, capacity constraints at certain locations and environmental preservation.

Residents and visitors who have yet to sign the pledge are encouraged to sign virtually on DoorCounty.com or in person at the Door County Welcome Center, 1015 Green Bay Road in Sturgeon Bay, or at one of nine different community information centers around Door County. Sign the Door County Pledge here.

"The driving force behind the pledge came from our residents and visitors,” said Michelle Rasmusson, director of marketing and sales for DDC.  “We want everyone to have the chance to experience what the county has to offer but at the same time we have to be mindful of the impact we have on the place we love.  The Pledge is an ask, an ask to become a guardian of our destination so we can preserve it for future generations, she said."

“Hitting the 2k mark for signatures is just the beginning of the people we can reach,” Rasmussen added.

The Door County Pledge is part of a larger initiative for DDC that highlights several new destination management efforts called Care for Door County. The Care for Door County initiative includes the pledge, a partnership with Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, a push to become a Green Destination, and voluntourism opportunities such as the recently launched monthly clean up, Leave No Trace Tuesday.
