The Door County Peninsula Helps Wisconsin Bundle Up This Winter

Door County’s tourism industry is collecting new and gently used coats, scarves, hats, mittens and other warm clothing items starting today as part of the Wisconsin Department of Tourism’s “Big Bundle Up” donation campaign. The campaign is a statewide collection program that runs from November 15, 2018 to January 2, 2019. All items donated locally will stay in Door County and be distributed throughout the county.

This is the eighth year of the program. Last winter a total of 31,041 items were donated to charities throughout Wisconsin. Since 2011, the campaign has totaled more than 134,441 donated items. In Door County, 5,310 items have been donated.

Eleven different tourism organizations in Door County have committed to participate in this year’s “Big Bundle Up” cold weather clothing drive. Those organizations include the Door County Visitor Bureau, Baileys Harbor Community Association, Carlsville Business Association, Door County North, Egg Harbor Business Association, Ephraim Business Council, Fish Creek Civic Association, Jacksonport Area Business Association, Sister Bay Advancement Association, Southern Door Business Association and the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center.

A container will be located at participating locations for donors to drop off new or gently used clothing items. When the drive concludes in January, items will be distributed back to Door County residents through local charity partners.

Jen Rogers, communication and PR manager for the Door County Visitor Bureau (DCVB), is co-organizing the drive with Cambria Mueller, marketing manager for the DCVB. Mueller has been working with each community coordinator for the past year and is excited to be part of the campaign. “The Big Bundle Up has been a growing success here in Door County and it is great to have eleven tourism organizations collectively working together to bring warmth to children and adults in our communities,” said Mueller.
