I love art. I love Sturgeon Bay. And I LOVE summer. So the Sturgeon Bay Fine Art Fair is always one of my favorite events of the season, since it combines all three. Set at beautiful Sunset Park overlooking the waters of Sturgeon Bay, the Fine Art Fair always seems to take place on a sunny, warm late spring day. (Oooh, I hope I didn't just put a hex on next weekend's weather!) The art fair hosts over 100 exhibitors from across the midwest, including Door County artists, who bring their work in sculpture, pottery, paintings, fiber, photography, and jewelry. I almost always find gifts for my friends and family who have summer birthdays, and of course, since my birthday falls at the end of May, I usually pick up a little something for myself too! The prices at the fair are always reasonable, and I've acquired some gorgeous pieces, including one of my favorite blown-glass vases, at prices ranging from $15-$75. Fun at the Fair Unlike some galleries, which are quiet and pristine and might make you think twice before bringing the kids along, the Sturgeon Bay Fine Art Fair is a perfect family outing. There are hands-on art activities for the kids, music, balloons, a clown (don't worry, for those of you who don't like clowns, he doesn't get too close) and even a strolling violinist. And of course there is fair food like brats and corn and popcorn, a raffle with some great prizes from exhibiting artists, and the playground equipment that gets a definite workout during the two-day fair. The Sturgeon Bay Fine Art Fair kicks off an incredible Door County summer that's full of outdoor festivals, exhibits, and art markets. But there's nothing quite like the first art fair of the season to get my blood pumping a little faster....summer is finally here! Sturgeon Bay Fine Art Fair hours are: 10-5 on Saturday and 10-4 on Sunday. The fair is located at Sunset Park, 747 North Third Avenue on Sturgeon Bay’s waterfront! Click here for more info.
