Door County’s culinary influences may date back to the 1800s when Icelandic, Scandinavian, and European settlers began immigrating here, but the region’s position as a Midwestern culinary powerhouse is only a development of the last few decades. Mushroom hunting, particularly for morels, is a springtime mainstay up here. A day or two after a rainfall, local chefs and ‘shroom-spotters head into the woods.
