1 tempered glass
1 teaspoon powdered sugar
1 teaspoon cherry juice (muddled cherries can be substituted)
1 orange slice
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1oz. whiskey or brandy
Your choice of mixer (sweet/7-Up, sour/Squirt or press/half 7-Up, half soda water)
1 toothpick loaded with your favorite garnishes
Grab a tempered glass. The key to not breaking the glass is to keep rotating it so one spot doesn’t get hotter than another. If you use a glass with a small stem it won’t be as hot on your fingers.
Shake a 1/2 ounce bitters into the glass and light it on fire. It may seem like a lot of bitters but the longer it burns the more it will reduce.
With the bitters aflame, squeeze the orange over the flame, causing it to dance. Then shake cinnamon and powdered sugar over the flames to make them spark. Next, add cherry juice to put out the flame and chill the glass just enough so ice can be added. If ice is added too quickly, before the glass is allowed to cool, it will crack.
Top with ice, liquor, mixer and garnishes.
