36 Hours of Beer, Wine, and Spirits in Door County

Door County’s unique climate makes it the perfect spot to grow local fare that many brewers, winemakers and distillers use in their craft. Pair that with a thriving culinary scene and you’ve got a cocktail for a spirited weekend.

Friday Night

Kick off your weekend at Door County Brewing Co. in Baileys Harbor. The McMahon family’s brand new taproom and music hall frequently features original music acts throughout the winter that have never before been seen in Door County. Try imaginative craft brews from their new Hacienda label. You’ll want to buy some to take home in a six pack or growler.

Morning:  Wake up with a hot cup of coffee at a local coffee shop and plan your day with help from the Door County Wine Trail, your guide to the county’s great wineries.

Mid-morning:  Head on over to the Door County Trolley for their Wine, Spirits and Brew tour. This quintessential Door County experience will carry you to the best wineries, distilleries and breweries in the county. Each spot offers unique drinks and lunch is included on the tour.

Afternoon:  See some wineries that you missed on your tour? Keep the tastings going at Stone’s Throw in Baileys Harbor or Lautenbach’s Orchard Country in Fish Creek. Tastings are offered throughout the year.

If spirits are your preference, head to Door County Distillery for a taste of locally crafted whiskey, brandy, gin, vodka and specialty flavored spirits. The award-winning distillery is a recent addition to the Door Peninsula Winery location in Carlsville.

Evening:  Spend the evening with local drinks and local people at one of the pubs or taverns in each village. There’s a lot of pride in Door County products and these bar owners feel that - featuring many of the wines, beers and spirits crafted right here.

Or, enjoy the fabulous wine lists at one of the great fine dining restaurants open this spring, including the Whistling Swan, Chives, and Lure.

Great Spots for Great Beer Lists

You can find great beer up and down the peninsula, but these three spots are known by local beer lovers for creating great craft beer lists.

Husby’s:  This Sister Bay Stable offer 15 beer on draft inside, and more at the Garage Bar in summer.

Stabbur:  You’ll have to wait till summer, but when it comes you’ll want to head to Al Johnson’s beer garden and sample from two dozen craft beers.
