10 Family Activities in Door County

Farms & Orchards
Get up close and personal with goats, piglets, horses, chickens, and other farm animals. You may get lucky and see baby chicks hatch or witness some of the first days of a baby cow.

Ridges Sanctuary Family Discovery Trail
This trail teaches a new appreciation for nature at Wisconsin’s oldest private nature preserve. It’s a great hike anytime but even better when guided by a naturalist.

Cana Island Lighthouse
Found a few minutes from Baileys Harbor, Cana Island Lighthouse may be the most revered of Door County’s lights. Cross the spit to the island on foot (wear shoes that can get wet) or by complimentary haywagon, then climb the steps to the top of the lookout tower for a sweeping view of the lake.

Get on the Water
Rent a few kayaks and explore the shoreline, opt for a pontoon boat for a relaxing ride on the lake, or feed your need for speed with a speedboat and tubing gear—whichever way you go, getting on Lake Michigan or an inland lake is a must.

Washington Island & Ferry Ride
Sometimes the journey is the reward. Kids will love going aboard the Washington Island Ferry to cross Death’s Door for a getaway to the island. After the 30-minute crossing, grab ice cream, explore the island, and stop at Schoolhouse Beach for a dip in pristine waters.

Apple & Cherry Picking
Thousands of blossoms will turn into delicious cherries each July, ripe for the picking. Follow our cherry report to see when the fruits are ready to be picked, plucked, and transformed into your favorite delicacies.

Old-School Drive-In Movie Experience
Take your kids for an old-fashioned film experience at the Skyway Drive-In, one of the last of its kind. Pack some snacks, blankets, and bug spray, and tuck in for a cozy night spent watching a double-feature among the trees.

Cave Point County Park
There are few places like this geological wonder outside Sturgeon Bay. Dodge the splashing waters crashing into the rocky shoreline, hike trails on the rocks, marvel at the dramatic drops and crags, and pose for spectacular photos.

Hiking & Forest Bathing
Few things are a better pick-me-up than spending some time in quiet beauty of the woods. Door County has plenty of trails, so pick one that fits your family's experience, interests, and enthusiasm level and hit the trail.

Biking
Through a state park, along a scenic backroad, or across town to the candy store, wherever you venture, biking is the perfect way to experience Door County while keeping the energy levels high. If you don't have your own, bike rentals are a-plenty.
