Campgrounds in Door County

Standard Campgrounds
Grab the tent, cooking stove, and s’mores fixings and set off for a state park or private campground. Standard campgrounds might have as little as a bathroom and as much as a pool, game room, or basketball courts.

Camping Resorts
Get relaxed and restored while staying close to the great outdoors. Bring your RV or big rig in tow and stay at a luxurious camping resort that serves as a home base as you explore the peninsula and islands.

Year-Round Campsites
Some campgrounds, including many in the state parks, keep campsites open throughout the winter months. If you’re looking for true solitude and don’t mind being bundled up, try winter camping. After all, the only thing better than a campfire is a campfire during a snowfall.

State Parks Camping

Door County's small but formidable collection of remote and rustic State Park campsites offers backpackers the chance to unwind in solitude in the wilderness. Pack light, bring a solid pair of hiking boots, and get ready to trek into the woods for a few miles to reach your campsite. Newport State Park and Rock Island State Park have the only rustic, walk-in campsites, and many of them are first-come, first-serve..

Door County has two state parks for family and group camping, offering an array of camping styles for the whole family, groups and those with disabilities. Peninsula State Park is one of Wisconsin’s most popular year-round camping destinations, featuring five campgrounds (one with the Peninsula’s only sand swimming beach), 468 family sites, and three group campsites for tent camping. Potawatomi State Park offers family and group campsites and an indoor cabin. A committee of people with disabilities designed the Cabin by the Bay, which is a fully accessible indoor camping cabin in the south campground.

Fire & Outdoor Safety

If you're headed into the wilderness, it's a good time to brush up on outdoor etiquette basics. Keep these seven timeless tenets of preservation in mind whenever you spend time outdoors.

In addition, it’s important to always buy firewood locally to prevent the spread of disease or invasive species. If you’re camping in a state park, any firewood must be cut within 10 miles of that park. State parks and private campgrounds typically sell bundles of firewood at their offices. Otherwise, many locals sell firewood in roadside stands.
