Door County’s Tourism Industry Collecting Food and Youth Outerwear

Posted on

Door County’s tourism industry is coming together to help bundle up and feed Door County. Locations throughout Door County are collecting new or gently used youth coats, hats, mittens, snow pants, and boots along with nonperishables to help fill local pantries. The campaign runs from November 2, 2020 to December 2, 2020. All items donated locally will stay in Door County and be distributed throughout the county.

The Wisconsin Department of Tourism celebrates the 10th Anniversary of the “Big Bundle Up” donation campaign this year. Door County has participated since the inception of the campaign.  Last winter Door County donated 929 winter clothing items to local organizations.

Co-organizer, Cambria Mueller, community advocacy manager at Destination Door County expressed the need for the twist on the campaign this year. “With COVID-19 we wanted to really focus on youth items and stress the need for new items,” said Mueller. “We also saw the need for food in our community and really hope to give back to the pantries that are keeping bellies full across the county,” she said.

Eight different tourism organizations in Door County have committed to participate in this year’s “Big Bundle Up and Feed Door County” youth outerwear and food drive. Those organizations include Destination Door County, Baileys Harbor Community Association, Destination Sturgeon Bay, Door County North, Egg Harbor Business Association, Ephraim Business Council, Fish Creek Civic Association, and Sister Bay Advancement Association. Donations can also be given directly to local pantries.

A container will be located at participating locations for donors to drop off new or gently used youth outerwear or nonperishables. When the drive concludes in December, items will be distributed back to Door County residents through local charity partners. Destination Door County will have a hat and mitten tree in their lobby that can be accessed 24/7 for those to take what they need.
