The 7th annual “Big Bundle Up” campaign concluded earlier this month. Donations this year tops previous years with the Door County tourism industry and local community working together to collect 1,303 winter clothing items. The campaign was led by the Wisconsin Department of Tourism and organized locally by the Door County Visitor Bureau.

The Door County Visitor Bureau Welcome Center along with community visitor centers in Baileys Harbor, Carlsville, Egg Harbor, Fish Creek, Jacksonport, Sister Bay and Sturgeon Bay all volunteered to participate in the campaign.

Community members were encouraged to drop off new or gently used cold weather clothing items from November 17, 2016 to January 2, 2017 at any of the drop off sites. Collected items were donated to twelve local organizations.

The Wisconsin Department of Tourism reported that it was a record breaking year with 31,697 winter clothing items collected at Wisconsin Welcome Centers and tourist information centers around Wisconsin. Since 2011 the campaign has donated 103,400 items to Wisconsin residents in need.

Jen Rogers, Communications & PR Manager at the Door County Visitor Bureau, helped organize this year’s collection in Door County. She wanted to express tremendous gratitude for all the community members that donated and the visitor centers and businesses that helped collect.

“We couldn’t have received 1,303 winter clothing items without the caring people of Door County,” said Rogers. “So many great organizations benefited from items this year, and over the past six years we have donated over 4,200 winter clothing items to Door County residents in need,” she said.

The Door County Visitor Bureau is the official tourism marketing organization for Door County, whose mission is to generate incremental economic impact for the community by attracting visitors with strategies that ensure sustainable tourism.
