The 9th annual “Big Bundle Up” campaign concluded earlier this month. The Door County tourism industry and local community worked together to collect 937 winter clothing items. The campaign was led by the Wisconsin Department of Tourism and organized locally by the Door County Visitor Bureau.
The Door County Visitor Bureau Welcome Center along with community visitor centers in Baileys Harbor, Carlsville, Door County North, Egg Harbor, Ephraim, Fish Creek, Jacksonport, Sister Bay, Southern Door and Sturgeon Bay all volunteered to participate in the campaign. Nicolet Bank also collected at their Sturgeon Bay, Sister Bay and Brussels locations.
Community members were encouraged to drop off new or gently used cold weather clothing items from November 15, 2018 to January 2, 2019 at any of the drop off sites. Collected items were donated to local organizations across the county.
The Wisconsin Department of Tourism reported 21,452 winter clothing items collected at Wisconsin Welcome Centers and tourist information centers around Wisconsin. Since 2011 the campaign has donated more than 155,800 items to Wisconsin residents in need.
Cambria Mueller, Marketing Manager at the Door County Visitor Bureau, helped co-organize the collection. “It was great to see such community support with this campaign,” said Mueller. “We were able to donate items to twelve different organizations throughout Door County,” she said. Locally the campaign has donated 6,247 items to Door County residents in need.
The Door County Visitor Bureau is the official tourism marketing organization for Door County, whose mission is to generate incremental economic impact for the community by attracting visitors with strategies that ensure sustainable tourism.
