Century Old Group Tour Itinerary

Day 1

10:00 AM  There is no better way to start a historic journey than the Door County Maritime Museum, Sturgeon Bay. They offer docent guided tours of the maritime related exhibits that span the nautical history of Door County from early American Indian canoes to post World War II bulk carriers. If there’s time head across the bridge and enjoy the Door County Historical Museum, named the best small museum in the Midwest by the Chicago Tribune. 

11:15 AM  Door Peninsula Winery – The winery is located in the old 1868 Carlsville schoolhouse which maintains a historic feel and remains quite modern. Stop by and they’ll even ring the old school bell for you before you take the tour. 

12:30 PM  Make your way north on Hwy 42 to grab lunch in the Village of Egg Harbor.

1:30 PM  After lunch, continue north on Hwy 42 to Fish Creek’s historic Alexander Noble House Museum. Built in 1875, the home is an authentic example of Greek revival farmhouse architecture and is the oldest frame residence in Door County, with many original furnishings and artifacts. Tour its rooms and experience a portrayal of domestic life over a century ago. 

2:00 PM  Eagle Bluff Lighthouse in Peninsula State Park, Fish Creek. Built in 1868 and automated in 1926, the lighthouse played a crucial role in guiding ships through the narrow treacherous east channel leading to the city of Green Bay. 

3:00 PM  Stop for a quick ice cream break. Wilson's Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlor has been located in the heart of Ephraim since 1906. A classic Door County landmark that possesses the enchantment to take the youngest visitors back in time with its old-fashioned soda fountain and ice cream specialties, home-brewed draft root beer, flame broiled burgers, and juke boxes playing the classics.  

3:30 PM  See how things were done over 100 years ago at the Corner of the Past and Anderson House Museums, Sister Bay. This historic site features late 1800s furnishings, historical photographs, and artifacts depicting Sister Bay’s rich history. These buildings include a large barn, granary, machine shop, two log cabins, and migrant worker's cabin, summer kitchen, sawmill, and blacksmith's barn, all of which are open for visitation and your enjoyment. 

4:30 PM  Check into hotel for some R&R.  

6:15 PM  Enjoy dinner at the White Gull Inn, Fish Creek. Since 1896, the White Gull Inn has been providing accommodations with character and memorable food and lodging to Door County visitors. Breakfast, lunch, candlelight dinners, and traditional Door County fish boils are served to the general public.  


Day 2

8:30 AM  Take the morning and tour century old historic museums throughout Ephraim. Tours available through the Ephraim Historical Foundation that include an old school house, store, barn, house and cabin.

12:00 PM  Lunch. Harbor Fish Market & Grille in Baileys Harbor was originally built as an ice cream parlor and used as a tavern. Later in 1908, August Schram added the large building, which served as a tavern and dance hall. To this day the restaurant still boasts the old tin ceiling and the occasional bullet hole from previous owners. 

1:00 PM  The Baileys Harbor Range Lights were built in 1869 to assist ships in navigating treacherous waters as they entered Baileys Harbor.

3:00 PM  One last tour before heading home. Heritage Village at Big Creek sponsored by the Door County Historical Society. Tour the Vignes School that represents education and social life and was built around about 1898 or the Granary that represents our agricultural heritage.
