DDC has spearheaded the creation of a Destination Master Plan for Door County, and in May gathered a group of community leaders and local organizations together to walk through the process involved with drafting the plan. This dynamic, resident-influenced long-term planning document will help guide sustainable growth and development in Door County.  The plan will be built around the needs of residents, visitors and stakeholders ranging from tourism to economic development to county planning.

The input of residents is critical to the overall effectiveness of a Destination Master Plan. Since May, DDC has been in the research phase of the plan creation process obtaining input from residents. They’ve conducted one-on-one interviews, held focus group meetings, and have received more than 1,200 online surveys back from residents and local stakeholders. That resident input process continues with the town hall meetings on September 13.

All Door County residents are invited to participate in the conversation and share their thoughts at one of the three upcoming community town hall meetings. Town hall facilitators will be seeking resident feedback that will support the development of the Destination Master Plan. All three meetings, including two in-person meetings and one online virtual meeting, are open to the public. They will all be similar, so participants only need to attend one of the meetings. No pre-registration is necessary.
The Destination Master Plan will create a strategic and shared vision for the future of Door County’s economy to ensure its long-term economic sustainability, while preserving the environment, quality of life for residents and quality of place. As important as the final document is, equally important is the planning process that integrates inclusive community engagement.
