WELCOME TO DOOR COUNTY

The information provided on this web site will assist you in making Door County your home. Whether you are starting a new business, making plans for your retirement, investing in a vacation home or just moving to the country you will find an unsurpassed quality of life in Door County.

Door County's unique draw to residents and visitors alike is the perfect blend of natural beauty, culture and hospitality. The County is comprised of 19 municipalities, bordered by the waters of Green Bay to the west and Lake Michigan to the east. With over 250 miles of shoreline, 11 golf courses, 5 State Parks, 17 County Parks and a world class cultural community it is no wonder that over 2 million visitors vacation each year in Door County.

Since the late 1800's the peninsula has been the destination of choice for Midwest travelers. Today visitors come from throughout the US, Canada, Europe and Asia. One visit and it is easy to see why MONEY Magazine selected Door County as one of the top ten vacation destinations in North America.

While tourism is the county's primary economic engine the area offers a variety of employment opportunities. The City of Sturgeon Bay is home to manufacturing, shipbuilding and county government as well as many service businesses.

Five public school districts and six private schools serve Door County. Door County students consistently score above average in state testing. In addition to the excellent public and private schools the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) serves the area. The local campus is located in Sturgeon Bay and classes are available in multiple locations throughout Door County and via the Internet. University of Wisconsin Green Bay is located approximately 40 miles south of Door County.

I hope you have the opportunity to make Door County your home. I am sure you will never regret your move. If we can be of any further assistance please call us at (800) 52-RELAX.

Sincerely,
Door County Visitor Bureau
