Shop Till You Drop

When French Explorer, Radisson, described Door County as "A Kingdom So Delicious" in the 17th century, he could not have imagined just how delicious Door County would become. A delectable treat for all the senses, Door County is particularly known for the variety of locally grown and imported taste treats offered in shops and farm stands throughout the peninsula. Activities
As any seasoned shopper knows the time you spend in any shop varies depending on the time you have. To travel the entire peninsula to discover all the specialty food shops allow 2 to 3 days. The itinerary is presented south to north and by community.
  • Travel throughout the county and visit specialty food shops and farm stands.
  • Begin your Christmas shopping, Door County delicacies are always in good taste.
  • Bring the tastes of Door County home to enjoy as you plan your next visit.
  • Don't forget the wine, cheese, cherries and apples.

Activities in Detail

Southern Door - Whether traveling to Door County via Hwy 42 or Hwy 57 stop at Renard's Cheese shop (there is one on each route) for their award winning wide assortment of cheese. Just east of Hwy 42 on Cty J in Forestville is Country Ovens, home of Cherry Delite products including a variety of dried fruits, trail mix and more.

Sturgeon Bay - Door County Gourmet is located on Hwy 57, next to the Door County Visitor Center, in Sturgeon Bay, featuring cheese, wines, locally produced and imported gourmet foods. Further north on Hwy 42/57 Grandma Tommy’s Country Store offers local specialty foods, wines and brews along with fudge, ice cream, pies cookies, bread. On Third Avenue in Sturgeon Bay's historic downtown shopping district satisfy your sweet tooth at Door County Confectionery or Copper Kettle Confections where they have the perfect treat for kids of all ages.

Carlsville - North on Hwy 42 is the community of Carlsville which is home to Door County Coffee & Tea, featuring over 50 varieties of fresh roasted coffee, Door Peninsula Winery, offering a large variety of wines, wine tasting and more. Last, but certainly not least, Simon Creek Winery & Vineyard, located a short drive east, just off Country Trunk I, (watch for the signs) offers tours of the wine making process, the vineyard and samples of their award winning wines.

Egg Harbor - In the heart of the Village of Egg Harbor is Main Street Market, a full service grocery store with outstanding assortment of Door County products and the largest selection of wine in the Green Bay Diocese - really the varieties are endless. In the Main Street Shops you will find Door County Confectionery, guaranteed to satisfy anyone's sweet tooth - try a famous Bear Paw. YUMMY!

Fish Creek - On Hwy 42, just south of Fish Creek, is Orchard Country Winery & Market, where you will find wine, cider, locally grown cherry products galore and you can tour orchards, vineyards and the winery. At Founder's Square (turn left at the stop sign in the heart of Fish Creek) you will find the Door County Confectionery with a wide assortment of chocolates, fudge, 'penny' candy - treats for kids of all ages.

Ephraim - Located on Hwy 42 along the shores of Eagle Harbor is another Door County Confectionery, just in case you need to restore that sugar buzz. In the heart of the Village of Ephraim is Wilson's Ice Cream Parlor. While Wilson's is not a specialty food shop, it's red and white striped awning has become an icon of Door County, featured everywhere from paintings sold in Key West's Old Town to a recent Harley Davidson catalog - a must see and who can pass up an ice cream break while taking in the breathtaking views of Eagle Harbor.

Sister Bay - At the south edge of the Village of Sister Bay on Hwy 42 is the Country Walk Shopping Center and the Top Shelf Cafe & Gourmet shop which features an outstanding assortment of gourmet delicacies, both local and imported. In the heart of the Village of Sister Bay on Hwy 42 is Door County Confectionery where they have the perfect treat for kids of all ages. North of the Village on Hwy 42 is Seaquist Orchards Farm Market, offering a wide variety of taste treats made from the fruits of their orchards and more, also great fun for the kids.

Ellison Bay/Rowley's Bay - Although a little off the beaten path, Grandma's Swedish Bakery at the Wagon Trail Resort is more than worth the short drive. The bakery's world famous pecan rolls are just one of many mouth watering delights. Located on County Trunk ZZ at Rowley's Bay, on the shore of Lake Michigan.

Gills Rock - Adjacent to the Island Clipper Dock on Hwy 42 (just before Hwy 42 turns to the right) is Charlie's Smokehouse with fresh whitefish smoked to perfection along with many other fresh caught delicacies. Continue on Hwy 42 toward Northport Pier to discover why Bea's Ho-Made Products have won award after award and ships their preserves, pickles and relishes all over the world.

Washington Island - Considered to be "North of the Tension Line", Washington Island can be reached by passenger ferry in Gills Rock or by car ferry at Northport Pier. While on the island be sure to visit Mann's Mercantile Shops (if they don't have it you don't need it) where you will find an assortment of locally produced foods. While you are there ask who is serving the best 'lawyer' - it's an island delicacy.
