Culinary Tour

 

Indulge not only your taste buds—this tour is a feast for all the senses. Foodies and novices alike will find plenty to enjoy. 

Three days, two nights

Day One: 
 

10:00AM

Arrive at Country Ovens in Forestville. Stop in and shop the country store where you’ll find delicious dried fruits and preserves as well as the house specialty, the Cherry-Delite. www.countryovens.com

Head to downtown Sturgeon Bay and enjoy a wine tasting at the Red Oak Winery. Each tasting includes seven pours as well as bread, cheese and dark chocolate to accentuate the flavors. www.redoakvineyard.com 

12:00PM

 

Make your way north on Hwy 42 for lunch at Bistro 42, located inside the Door Peninsula Winery, in Carlsville. People come here hungry, read for fire-baked pizzas from the stone hearth oven and exceptional all-natural fruit wines. 1:30PM

For dessert, stop at Schopf’s Hilltop Dairy in Carlsville. This family fun stop is educational and entertaining. Parents and kids can learn about the Wisconsin dairy industry and experience it first-hand by first watching the milking operations, and then milking Cookie the cow yourself! 3:00PM

See how things were done over 100 years ago at the Anderson Store in Ephraim. The store was established in 1858 and operated by the Anderson Family for over 100 years. It now serves as both a museum and a store. www.ephraim.org

6:15PM

Experience a Fish Boil at The White Gull Inn, located on the west end of Fish Creek. A Fish Boil features whitefish caught by local fishermen and cooked outdoors over an open fire, just as it was one hundred years ago by Scandinavian settlers of the area. Seconds are always encouraged, but make sure you leave room for a piece of traditional Door County Cherry Pie. www.whitegullinn.com

See the most amazing sunset you’ll ever experience at Sunset Park in Fish Creek.

Day Two:

 

8:30AM

Breakfast at Al Johnson’s in Sister Bay means two things: famous Swedish pancakes with lingonberries and of course, the live goats grazing on the restaurant’s roof. Make sure you take time to enjoy both! www.aljohnsons.com

9:30AM

Visit the Anderson House, also in Sister Bay, and jump into the past. Take the tour of the farmhouse built in 1875, the restored farm buildings, log cabins, sawmill as well as the turn-of-the-century furnishings, farm implements, tools and historic photos. www.sisterbayhistory.org

11:30AM

For lunch, visit Wilson’s Ice Cream Parlor, located in the heart of Ephraim since 1906. This classic Door County landmark takes even the youngest visitors back in time with its old-fashioned soda fountain and ice cream specialties, home-brewed draft root beer, flame broiled burgers and juke boxes that play all the classics. www.wilsonsicecream.com

Next stop: the Orchard Country Winery & Market in Fish Creek. Discover the orchards and vineyards, on-site tours, fruit picking, wine tasting and picnic area. Always a favorite stop. www.orchardcountry.com

2:00PM

Enjoy an afternoon of R&R or shopping.

6:00PM

It’s time for school! Door County offers one-of-a-kind cooking schools in Ellison Bay and Sister Bay. Learn about locally grown ingredients while improving your culinary skills. www.doorcounty.com

Day Three:

 

8:00AM
