Day One: 

 

9:00AM

There is no better place to start your journey than the Door County Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay. The museum offers docent-guided tours of exhibits that span the nautical history of Door County, from early American Indian canoes to post-World War II bulk carriers. And if there’s time, head across the bridge and enjoy the Door County Historical Museum, named the best small museum in the Midwest by the Chicago Tribune. Times vary.

11:00AM

Head north on 42 and visit one of the areas local farm markets. Go to Door County Orchards (pdf) and download the Orchards brochure

11:30AM

Make a quick stop before lunch at Door County Coffee & Tea. It offers more than 60 different coffees, a huge assortment of tea from around the world and gourmet foods. Coffee and tea lovers will find all the accessories, like French presses and fine china teapots and cups. www.doorcountycoffee.com 

12:00PM

For lunch, head across the street to Bistro 42 at the Door Peninsula Winery. Be sure to enjoy a wine tasting before you go! www.dcwine.com and http://www.bistrofortytwo.com/

1:00PM

Continue north to your second wine tasting of the day at Orchard Country Winery in Fish Creek, where the Lautenbach’s invite you to visit their unique family winery and orchard market. Take a guided tour of the grounds and taste their award winning wines and ciders. Browse through their shop filled with hundreds of Door County’s finest homemade gifts and foods. During the season, bring your family to pick fresh fruits and challenge each other to the cherry pit spit! www.orchardcountry.com 

2:00PM

Follow Hwy 42 north to Ephraim and stop at the Ephraim Foundation to learn the true culture of Door County. Visit Ephraim’s historic sites including the site of the first landing by Pastor Iverson in 1853; the site of the first Moravian Church; the Pioneer Schoolhouse; the Anderson store and dock warehouse as well as the Anderson Barn and eight homes, all more than a century old. www.ephraim.org 

4:00PM

Check into your hotel for some R & R.

5:00PM

Enjoy a traditional Fish Boil dinner. A Fish Boil features whitefish caught by local fishermen and cooked outdoors over and open fire, just as it was one hundred years ago by Scandinavian settlers of the Peninsula. Dining Guide (pdf)

7:00PM

Enjoy the night by seeing stars—in the sky and on the stage! Door County boasts some of the best performing arts venues in the country. Go to the “Arts & Humanities” section of the events calendar for a full list of venues and show times. Door County Events Calendar

Day Two:

 

9:00AM

Start your day in Baileys Harbor for breakfast at the Harbor Fish Market. This restaurant is located in a historic 120-year old building with and exceptional view of the harbor. www.harborfishmarket-grille.com 

10:00AM

See the rest of the harbor while touring Cana Island Lighthouse, located just north of Baileys Harbor. Step inside the innkeeper’s house where they tended to the light, which guided sailors and protected them from the dangerous shoals extending out into Lake Michigan. www.dcmm.org/canaisland.html

11:00AM

Gallery hop & shop around the Peninsula. There are plenty of unique galleries and gift shops that offer something for everyone. Go to the “Shopping” menu under “Things To Do” for a full list of shops and galleries.

12:00PM

Eat lunch at one of Door County’s finest restaurants. Go to “Where To Dine” for a full selection or download our dining brochure at Dining Guide (pdf)

1:00PM

Take the “Old Time” Trolley ride and admire breathtaking vistas from Door County’s scenic bluffs overlooking the islands. As you traverse the land, you’ll learn about the legend and lore unique to each area. Don’t forget to bring your camera! Get tips from the locals about the best places to wine, dine and relax. 4:00PM

Return to your hotel for some R&R before dinner.

5:30PM

For dinner, take part in one of our renowned cooking schools to enrich your mind even further. These schools offer hands-on cooking classes for the home cook who wants to learn by doing. Classes teach techniques, offer tips and introduce new ingredients to give you the confidence to replicate the dishes at home.

7:00PM

Day Three:

 

9:00AM

Spend your last day exploring Door County’s unique shops and stops. Wander the historic streets, go to one of the many parks, or just sit back on the beach and soak up

sun.
