Getting to the Door

From Chicago by auto, take I-94 to Milwaukee, I-43 to Green Bay. Alternate routes to Door County include::

Route #1: Take Hwy 57 North from Green Bay.

Route #2: Take Hwy 310 (Two Rivers) East to Hwy 42.

Route #3: Take Hwy 42 (Two Rivers) North to Algoma. In Algoma take County Road S North to Door County.

From Minnesota & Twin Cities take I-94 to Hwy 29 (just beyond Menomonie, WI) Hwy 29 will take you to Green Bay. Take Hwy 41 north briefly and then I-43 south briefly to Hwy 57 exit going east into Door County (follow Sturgeon Bay signs).

Drive Carefully: Just south of the county line/welcome to door county sign, be aware of the lower speed limits. State troopers and local law enforcement are on the lookout for speeders. Be sure your vacation is worry-free.

Ferries

  • ISLAND CLIPPER
    The Island Clipper departs Gills Rock at the tip of the Door Peninsula and carries visitors through island-studded waters to picturesque Washington Island. The 65 ft., 149 seat all-weather craft, with the latest in safety and navigational equipment, makes the seven mile, 20 minute trip relaxing and enjoyable with comfort seating and narration of your voyage through Death’s Door.   • ROCK ISLAND FERRY
    Karfi is a 45 passenger ferry that operates daily from late May to early October; carrying campers, hikers, day visitors and gear to from Jackson Harbor on Washington Island to Rock Island State Park. Be sure to visit our website for more information.  920-847-2546.
  • WASHINGTON ISLAND FERRY LINE *
    Fun ride by ferry to Door County's island community. Enjoy Island museums, parks, shops, restaurants. Overnight lodging, too. For those without a car, plan an Island tour or bike ride. For a choice of departure times and info, call 1-800-223-2094.
  • LAKE MICHIGAN CAR FERRY *
    The Carferry links Ludington, Michigan, to Manitowoc, Wisconsin, sailing 7 days a week from mid-May to mid-October. On the S.S. Badger, what would be a 450-mile drive is a four-hour pleasure cruise with movies, refreshments and entertainment in the form of Badger Bingo. Reservations are recommended.
