County Plein Air Festival: This summer, the Peninsula Art School will
host its second annual Plein Air Festival. Painting en plein air requires
an artist to be quick and observant in capturing the changing light. The final
paintings will be fresh, full of color, life and light. What better place for
an artist to paint than Door County? Offering an abundance of lake, land,
and sky, with historic architecture, beaches full of people, and wild spaces
that beg to be explored - this is an artist's dream. Join them at their
Collector's Preview Gala, and take home a piece to remember Door County by.

Door County is featured
in the Patricia Schultz best seller 1,000 Places To See in the USA
& Canada Before You Die. Door County, referred to as
the "Cape Cod of the Midwest," is included in the Wisconsin section
of the book on pages 575-576. The listing talks about waterfront towns,
Door County Fish Boils, activities at Peninsula State Park, Washington Island,
and others. The Door County section ends with the quote, "...Ringed by
a horizon of water and woods, you can fully appreciated the landscape that has
been luring vacationers for decades." More info on the book here.
Geocaching
– Door County is “caching” in on geocaching - a hot new activity that's
growing in popularity across the country. There are several hundred caches scattered
throughout Door County, and one local business, the AmericInn
of Sturgeon Bay, has put together a special geocaching package that is available
to anyone – whether they're an overnight guest of the inn or not. And
for someone giving geocaching a try for the first time, their package is the
perfect introduction. It includes usage of a portable GPS unit, geocaching instructions,
secret information on their 3 private geocache locations, 2 special Door County
geocache t-shirts, a compass, a disposable camera to document the adventure
and more. All the necessary ingredients are included to help you explore Door
County via this fun 21st century treasure hunting activity. For more information
about this new geocaching package, visit the AmericInn
of Sturgeon Bay's web site or call Al Duessler at (920) 743-5898.
