Door County Scottie Rally Parade of Scots – 11:30
While Spring has been slow to arrive one thing we can count on each May is that it’s “SCOT” to be Scottie Rally time. Mark your calendars to join the viewing of the Parade of Scots led by Clan Donald Pipe and Drum Corps on Saturday, May 17th around the Baileys Harbor Town Square.
While the actual Door County Scottie Rally is held on private property and requires admission, the annual “Parade of Scots” is free and open to the public. Parade viewers are encouraged to assemble by 11:15 am along Park Rd, State Highway 57 and County F/EE in downtown Baileys Harbor. The parade travels east on Cty F/EE from Juniper Ridge Road and arrives at the Baileys Harbor Town Square at approximately 11:30 am . Many of these small dogs with short legs but BIG attitudes have been rescued from shelters and/or abandoned and have found their forever 2nd chance homes. In the past 13 years this gathering of Scottie devotees around North America has raised and donated over $114,000.00 to support Scottish Terrier health related research and Scottie Rescue. For further information regarding registration, to volunteer or to purchase DCSR shirts and memorabilia log onto www.doorcountyscottierally.com and/or call (920) 493-5878.
“Building a Better Future-One Scottie at a Time “ is the theme chosen for this year’s Scottie Rally and this year’s design for the Scottie Rally apparel features local artist, Mike McCartney’s design depicting a construction crew of Scotties preparing for the big event of 2 and 4-footed friends who are traveling from more than 15 states and South Africa—-making this another international event.
Abdominal ultrasound screenings, dental screenings, pet psychic sessions, auctions, and collection of blood samples for participation in national research studies are just some of the activities that occur during the Rally. A team of veterinary specialists from Fox Valley Animal Referral Center (Appleton, WI) and Animal Dentistry and Oral Specialists (Oshkosh, WI) donate their time to provide critical and affordable health screenings . Additionally this year’s Rally will feature presenters from the National Institutes of Health and the Oncology/ Veterinary Medicine Department at Purdue University who will address the latest advances and future research that is pending in the area of bladder cancer.
